Carrie Underwood leads the field at the 2012 CMT Music Awards, claiming five nominations when the candidates were announced this morning on NBC’s Today show

The 2012 CMT Music Awards mark the 11th anniversary of the show and will air live from Nashville on June 6 on CMT and CMT.com.

“Never in a million years would I think that this journey would lead me to be onstage with Blake,” Gwen gushed (quote via the Los Angeles Times). “I am honored he asked me to become a part of his show and a member of his ‘road family.’ Watching him perform is a learning experience in itself … He has a big heart and an infectious laugh. Plus, he’s pretty darn funny!”

The ‘Drink On It’ singer looks forward to spending time with his protégé. “The first time I ever heard Gwen’s voice, I knew it was something special,” says Blake. “She has the rare ability to combine power with passion in her singing abilities. Although our journey together has ended on ‘The Voice,’ it’s just beginning in real life.”

Gwen will head to Las Vegas on April 1 to perform with Blake for the ACM Awards, where he will also serve as co-host, along with Reba McEntire. Blake’s tour, which also includes last year’s ‘Voice’ runner-up, Dia Frampton, as well as Justin Moore, heads to South Dakota tonight (March 21), followed by stops in Montana, Arizona and Iowa.

“She’s doing great,” Alan tells The Boot. “Of course, you have to get a scan every few months to check on everything, and it’s all been clear and looking good. She didn’t lose all her hair, but it did get pretty thin. She’s looking better now. She’s probably more healthy than she’s ever been now because she watches what she eats and does, and now she’s wearing me out! Everything’s looking good. I appreciate everybody’s prayers and concerns.”

The ‘So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore’ singer acknowledges that their love affair is a constant work in progress … as most marriages are. “I’ve been in this relationship I’m in for 30-something years now, and some days I wish I wasn’t married to her and most of the time I’m glad I am,” he concedes. “I don’t care if it’s somebody that seems compatible or your soul mate … you have to work at it all the time. I always find that most times you treat strangers nicer than you do somebody that’s close to you, and if you learn to do that, that makes a big difference.”

Denise wrote a best-selling book in 2007, ‘It’s All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life,’ and her proud husband hints there may be another book in the works. “I can’t really speak for her, but she has felt like she wants to write something about what she just went through with this, because it’s such a tough experience. She drew from her faith to help her get through that, and I think she feels strongly about trying to do something with that, eventually.”

Alan will spend a few more weeks at home with Denise and their three daughters before he heads out for a series of shows, including stops in Colorado, Pennsylvania and California.

“I almost didn’t do ‘The Voice’,” he tells Reality TV magazine, remembering the first time he met his future cohorts. “I’m the only country artist, so I’m the only coach on time because I’m worried I’ll be fired before we even get started.”

Thankfully, the ‘Drink On It’ singer stuck around, despite the tardiness of his co-stars. “After about 15 minutes, this little guy [Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine] in a white t-shirt and all these tattoos comes in,” he recalls.

“Then, Christina [Aguilera]’s boobs come through the door, and about two minutes later the rest of her body comes through,” jokes the Oklahoma native. Finally, “in comes this guy in a bright yellow Adidas suit [Cee Lo Green] … and my manager asks, do I know any of his music?”

In spite of his tentative beginnings on the show, he clearly made the right decision. The debut of the second season of ‘The Voice,’ which aired right after the Super Bowl, garnered more than 37 million viewers, and it is consistently one of the highest-rated shows each week.

In addition, all four coaches have reportedly signed on for a third season. According to The Wrap, Christina has agreed to return for $10 million, while her male cohorts will also receive “substantial pay raises,” amounting to roughly $6 million each. The next installment of ‘The Voice’ is expected to make a fall debut.

Last season, the 35-year-old came in second with Dia Frampton taking the runner-up slot. This year, though, he’s devised a strategy to take the top spot. “I am picking polarizing voices,” Blake tells The Boot. “That really worked out well for me last time around … That’s the cool thing about having artists be the coaches — we all have a different vision for what ‘The Voice’ is. I think it will become even more dynamic this year, as far as how different each one of our teams are. Now we know what we’re looking for and how to go about the game we play.”

‘Good Girl’ is the first single from Carrie’s yet-to-be-titled fourth studio album, which will hit stores May 1. The country superstar co-wrote the song with her ‘Don’t Forget to Remember Me’ and ‘All-American Girl’ collaborators Chris DeStefano and Ashley Gorley.

“It’s fun!” Carrie says of her first new single in more than a year. “It’s upbeat, you stomp your feet and you can dance to it. It’s got this really rockin’ verse, and this really rockin’ country chorus.”

Luke Bryan doesn’t take a break in between albums … he takes a spring break. The country superstar is set to release his ‘Spring Break 4 … Suntan City’ EP on March 6. It’s the fourth in a series of four-song discs that celebrate beaches, bikinis, beer and everything else we love about a good vacation.

“I had a lot of songs that were just sitting in files at my publishing company, like ‘Sorority Girls’ and ‘Time to Take My Drunk Ass Home,’” Luke explains of how he came up with the idea for the first ‘Spring Break’ EP. “I knew these were things that would never make my regular, long-playing album, but I felt like they were great songs that the public needed to hear. So we came up with a way to put fun party songs out.”

The tracks on this latest project — ‘Suntan City,’ ‘Spring Breakup,’ ‘Little Bit Later On’ and ‘Shake the Sand’ — were all co-written by the Georgia native. You can catch Luke performing those songs and more during his annual Spring Break pilgrimage to Panama City, Fla., where he’ll play shows on March 13th and 14th.

Carrie Underwood has finally given into the Twitter craze! The 28-year-old, who had previously stated she had no interest in joining the social networking site, has changed her tune.

“I know a lot of people who get themselves in trouble with things they write on Twitter and that would be me,” the former ‘American Idol’ champ once admitted. “If I get upset about something and I’m like, ‘I’m gonna blog about this,’ it will take me awhile to get to my computer and log on and by the time I get on there, the steam is gone. Twitter and Facebook and those things, if you’re mad or you’re crazy at the moment, or I’ve seen people intoxicated twittering, it’s too immediate. There’s no time to cool off and think about what you’re going to say before you say it. I’d get in trouble.”

The Oklahoma native added that she felt no need to share every detail of her life with her fans. “I am technologically — I don’t want to say challenged, because I can do all the basics — but I’m not into it,” continued the songbird. “And some people are into it and they have fun with it and that’s awesome. I’m glad people can find some happy by telling people what they had for lunch.”

Apparently, fans are the ones who inspired the blond beauty to change her mind. “Excited to have another way to connect with my fans from my team and me,” she tweeted after signing up earlier today (Feb. 24). “Can’t wait to hear from you!”

Never underestimate the power of Facebook. As The Boot reported earlier today, 18-year-old cancer patient Kevin McGuire took to the social media site to ask Taylor Swift to be his prom date. This afternoon, he got her answer.

“Kevin, I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to make it to your prom,” the country superstar wrote on her Facebook page. “But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up … Would you be my date? Love, Taylor.”

Kevin, a Somerdale, New Jersey high school football star, has an excellent wing woman to thank for this development. His sister Victoria is actually responsible for starting the Facebook page, inviting the ‘Ours’ singer to Kevin’s prom.

“Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin’s day more than Taylor Swift,” Victoria writes on the Facebook page, which was first publicized by HuffPost Impact. “Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life.”

She went on to call the varsity football player, the “kindest, most noble 18 year old a person could fathom meeting.” Despite his years of chemo, spinal taps and bone marrow screenings, the resilient teen has stayed active with at Sterling High School, playing football and basketball. According to his sister, though, he’s never asked, ‘Why me?’

Kevin was recently diagnosed with Leukemia for the second time. He was first given this prognosis at the age of 13, only to get the all clear in 2010. He’ll celebrate his 19th birthday on June 1, the same day as prom, but odds are he won’t mind celebrating a few months earlier at the Academy of Country Music Awards April 1.
